Your IU Computing Account is your digital key to Indiana University.
Once activated, your account gives you access to the tools and services you'll use throughout your academic journey, including:
IU Email – The university's official communication channel after admission.
One.IU – Your gateway to university systems, student services, and academic resources.
Canvas – Your online classroom where you'll access coursework, submit assignments, and view grades.
Microsoft 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and other productivity tools available at no additional cost.
Library Resources – Online research databases, journals, and library services.
Student Support Services – Advising, tutoring, mentorship, and other resources designed to support your success.
Most students will receive emails directing them to set up their IU Computing Account shortly after admission. Whether you're new to IU or returning after time away, the sections below will help you create, reactivate, or troubleshoot your access.
Enter your information carefully and avoid extra space when typing your details. This has helped students avoid account setup errors.
2. Follow the prompts to create your account.
3. Complete Duo Two-Step Login setup during the account creation process.
4. Look for a “Process Complete” message when setup is finished.
5. Allow time for your account access to finish processing. One onboarding guide notes that it may take 24–48 hours before all systems are fully active.
If you previously attended IU or were admitted in the past, your IU credentials may already exist. If you have not taken classes for two or more consecutive terms, your accounts may have been disabled and may need to be re-enabled.
2.If the system says you have active accounts, you should be able to log in through One.IU using your IU username and passphrase.
3.If you see “Ineligible to create,” look for the hyperlinked word “HERE” and use it to verify your accounts by logging in with your IU username and passphrase.
4. After logging in, check your Computing Accounts list. Active Directory Service and Microsoft Exchange should be listed. If they are not listed, select Create Computing Accounts to add them.
If your status is not fully processed
If the system says you are not eligible, your student status may not be fully processed yet. We recommend waiting 48 hours and trying again. If you still cannot complete the process, contact your home campus UITS Support Center.
After resetting your passphrase, wait 10–20 minutes before attempting to log in to IU systems.
Tip: If your login still does not work, try clearing your browser cache before logging in again after a passphrase reset. If you are still unsuccessful, contact your home campus UITS Support Center.
Your IU email is the university’s official communication channel after admission. After your IU Computing Account is active, you should be able to access email through Exchange.
Try web access first
1.Go to One.IU. 2.Search for Exchange or Exchange Online.
3.Try signing in through the browser with your IU username and passphrase.
If the web version works but the app does not
If you can access email through the web but want to use the Outlook app on your phone or computer, you may need to configure Exchange on your device.
Duo Two-Step Login helps protect your IU account. Before you can log in to many IU systems, you need to enroll a device. UITS recommends using the Duo Mobile app on a smartphone or tablet.
4. Consider enrolling multiple devices so you have a backup method if your primary device is unavailable.
If you previously enrolled a smartphone in Duo and now have a new device with the same phone number, you may be able to reactivate Duo Mobile using the Duo Self-Service Portal.
If the steps above do not resolve your issue, contact UITS Support. UITS can help with account creation, account reactivation, passphrase resets, Duo setup, email access, and account troubleshooting.
