Looking for aid?
Applying for financial aid is a cyclical process that a student should complete for each year they want to be considered for financial. The FAFSA is the primary aid application for Federal, State and some institutional aid programs.
The FAFSA cycle runs July 1 to June 30 each year. The 2024-2025 FAFSA determines aid eligibility for Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025. The 2025-2026 FAFSA determines aid eligibility for Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026. The “new” FAFSA opens October 1st each year. The 2026-2027 FAFSA will open on October 1, 2025.
The financial aid process can seem complicated, but this chart will help guide you through the overall process. Each year you wish to apply for financial aid requires the cycle to be repeated. Everything kicks off with you completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You can complete the FAFSA at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa.

How do I apply for financial aid?
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the application for federal, state, and institutional financial aid—including grants, loans, and work-study programs. It takes about 30 minutes to complete online. You'll need to fill out the FAFSA each year you wish to apply for financial aid. Submitting the FAFSA doesn’t obligate you to accept financial awards or to enroll at IU.
Be sure to submit the FAFSA each year to be considered for financial aid. Your home campus will use your FAFSA to determine your eligibility and offer your financial aid. Be sure to list the corresponding school code for your campus:
| Bloomington | 001809 |
| East | 001811 |
| Fort Wayne | E40457 |
| Kokomo | 001814 |
| Northwest | 001815 |
| South Bend | 001816 |
| Southeast | 001817 |

Submit the IU General Scholarship Application for potential additional funding. The General Scholarship Application opens each fall and closes each spring. Dates vary by campus, so keep an eye out for announcements from your financial aid office.
Visit the financial aid office or scholarship office at your campus to learn about more financial aid opportunities.
Having your Social Security number on your student record will help us process your financial aid. To add your SSN to your university record or confirm your information, log into One.IU and go to SSN/educational tax credit verification. You can add or update your SSN there.
