Admitted as a Non-Degree? Your Next Steps Start Here
Congratulations on your admission to IU Online! Whether you're here to take a single course or explore academic opportunities, we’re excited to support you on your journey. This page is designed to guide you through the next steps as a newly admitted non-degree student. You'll find important information on setting up your IU account, accessing your email, registering for classes, and connecting with resources to help you succeed.
Let's Get Started!
Step 1: Create Your IU Account (Required for All New Students)
You must create your IU account to begin your journey as a non-degree student at IU Online. This account is your gateway to accessing IU systems, including courses, email, and essential student services. Follow these steps to create your IU account:
- Visit the IU Account Creation page.
Tip: If records indicate you already have an account, you can view or create additional accounts here. - Enter your personal details (Last name, birth date, UID) and follow the prompts.
Tip: Spaces act as additional characters when submitting your personal details. - Gain access to your official IU email once your account is created.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours to activate all IU systems after creating your account.
Step 2: Access Your IU Email (24 Hours After Account Creation)
Once your IU account is active, you can access your official IU email. Your IU email is crucial for essential updates about your classes, enrollment, and university services. Follow these steps to access your IU email:
- Wait 24 hours after creating your account for full activation.
- Log in to your IU email via Microsoft Exchange.
- Regularly check your email for updates related to your courses and student services.
Step 3: Search for Online Classes
Now that your IU account and email are set up, you’re ready to explore online classes. To find available courses, use the IU Online Class Search tool:
- Visit the IU Online Class Search Tool.
- Select your desired semester, campus, and course delivery method.
- You can search by subject, course name, or course code. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date course information.
Step 4: Request Course Permissions
Important: Nondegree students are required to meet all prerequisite requirements prior to requesting course permissions and must be able to promptly provide documentation—such as transcripts, scores, or placement cards—that clearly demonstrates completion of those prerequisites.
All non-degree students must submit the Course Permission form for any class they wish to enroll in. Please allow up to 3 business days for processing. Not all course requests are guaranteed, and all requests must be approved by the department offering the course.
