Being an online student gives you flexibility, but it can make the people and experiences beyond your classes harder to find.
The IU Online Commons is a student-led community created to make those connections easier. Meet students from across IU, find people who share your interests and experiences, discover opportunities, and feel more connected to university life without needing to be on a campus.
Make the Commons what you need it to be
There's no required level of involvement. Join a conversation when you have time. Drop into a virtual event. Meet other students. Find a resource or opportunity you didn't know about. Or take on a larger role when you're ready.
Through the Commons, you can:
- Build your IU network beyond the people in your classes.
- Find community with students across programs, campuses, and experiences.
- Discover more of IU, from events and resources to opportunities for involvement and growth.
- Participate on your terms, whether that's occasionally checking in or becoming an active member or student leader.
The Commons' programming has intentionally included everything from relaxed community gatherings to structured workshops and student-led activities, so engagement doesn't require a major time commitment.
Start with one step
You don't need to know anyone, attend every event, or make a big commitment. Join the Commons and explore from there.
